We are very much looking forward to convening this great group and sharing stories and learning from one another. Because we are condensing what is typically a 3 day workshop into 2 days, we\u00a0 will need to start promptly at 10am on both days; please arrive by 9:30 to grab tea and coffee and get settled so that we can dive right into the workshop at 10. This email contains important details about the workshop, so please read to the end and respond with your preferred date for the story premiere!<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Below is a draft schedule for the two days:<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p><b>Tuesday, January 21st (start in FA 424)<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">9:30am: Arrive, tea\/coffee, mingle<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">10am: Welcome from Lindsey<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">10:05am\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brief history of DS and then DS at UMBC (Bill- 10 minutes)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brief Intros to facilitators and to one another- inc. Hong Kong colleagues (Bev 10 minutes)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Goals of Workshop and Norms and introduce progress board (Charlotte- 5 minutes)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">10:30am-12pm: Story Circle #1 (See above for groups and locations)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">12-1pm:\u00a0 Lunch, Story writing, and workshopping in small groups\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1pm: Quick Zoom recorder and DML plug (Nett Smith)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Story Circle #2 (in small groups) and re-writing with audio recording when we can (Recording in Bill\u2019s Office and 404- Joby\u2019s group will spread out as necessary)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3:45pm (back in 424): Close for evening- <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">homework by start of day 2<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Have your story recorded\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Log onto WeVideo between now and then and have up on computer (chrome)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pull together the images you\u2019ll use for your video- you don\u2019t want to spend your time tomorrow collecting those photos so bring them ready in a folder on your desktop<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Wednesday, January 22nd (FA 418)<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">9:30am: Arrive, tea\/coffee, mingle<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">10am: Icebreaker- in circle, how are you feeling in one word? (Charlotte)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Introduction to WeVideo (Charlotte)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">10:30: WeVideo Work time with support from facilitators\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1pm: Lunch and continue working\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1pm: Project Work Time\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2:15 Facilitators to remind group members to export a draft to share\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2:30pm: Viewing of Drafts\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3:30 pm Reflections:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any reflections on the process?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What did you learn?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What are you taking with you?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How will you apply it?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What are next steps?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What else do you need?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If all of this sounds unfamiliar or intimidating, please do not fret- we will walk through everything together and make sure that everyone enjoys and learns in the process!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><b>What will you need for the workshop?\u00a0<\/b><\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>A laptop (either Mac or PC will do) and charging cord- if you do not wish to bring your own laptop, there will be mac desktops available for you to use.<\/li>\n<li>A set of headphones<\/li>\n<li>Notebook and pen<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><b>How should you prepare for the workshop?\u00a0<\/b><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Come ready to listen deeply to others and to learn<\/li>\n<li>Come ready to be a little bit vulnerable and to learn things that might be brand new<\/li>\n<li>Bring a &#8220;story seed,&#8221; an idea of a story that you might want to tell. You don&#8217;t need to write it out, or even have the idea fully fleshed out. If you have photographs that go along with the story, bring those (either in digital or physical format). There are lots of resources out there for thinking about what a Digital Story might be and we will come ready to help you think through how best to tell your story. See the links at the bottom of this email for a few examples.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div><b>One final, very important, detail<\/b>&#8230;Typically a Digital Storytelling workshop would end with a premiere of the stories. We are anticipating taking right up until 4pm on the second day to complete the stories.
